The organisation of European Parliamentarians with Africa (AWEPA) occupies a central role as a project partner. There project has a close and continuous cooperation with the AWEPA offices in Amsterdam and Maputo.

AWEPA as an international organisation of parliamentarians aims to foster Africa’s development through the support of democratisation and of an inter-continental dialogue on the level of parliaments. AWEPA keeps Africa’s issues on the agendas of European politics. Initially founded as an anti-Apartheid movement AWEPA is engaged in strengthening African parliaments on core functions (oversight, representation, and legislation), election supervision and the consolidation of peace.

The currently more than 60 members of AWEPA-Austria can be found within the newly elected Austrian National Assembly as well as among former Austrian MP’s. A strong AWEPA-section in the Austrian Parliament is an important prerequisite for the creation of the functioning of parliamentarian partnerships and the political or technical cooperation between the parliaments of Mozambique and Austria.
